From Rendering to Reality: The Santa Clara Convention Center’s 21-Day Super Bowl Transformation

When the City of Santa Clara looked to modernize the Convention Center ahead of the Super Bowl, we stepped in to turn a blank canvas into a high-performance architectural landmark through custom renderings and elite coatings. Located at 5001 Great America Pkwy, this facility is a cornerstone of the city’s event space, and the goal was to ensure its front elevation stood toe-to-toe with the most modern buildings in the Bay Area.

Overcoming the "Three-Week Blitz"

Large-scale commercial renovations typically take months of planning. We had three weeks.

Beyond the aggressive timeline, we faced two major hurdles:

• The Vision Gap: The client knew they wanted a "new look" but lacked a specific design direction. To bridge the gap, we provided custom architectural renderings and designs, giving the city and facility managers a visual "roadmap" of the final outcome before we even opened a paint can.
• Weather Uncertainty: With the Northern California rain season threatening our schedule, our coordination had to be airtight. We managed a complex workflow to ensure the project stayed on track despite the elements.

The Technical Playbook: Modernization & Protection

To achieve a look that aligns with the sleek, high-tech aesthetic of the surrounding Silicon Valley landscape, we focused on high-performance materials and a complete textural overhaul.

The Main Entrance Upgrade:

• Acrylic Stucco Installation: We applied a brand-new stucco system to the front of the building. This modernized the façade’s texture, replacing the aged exterior with a clean, uniform architectural finish.
• Window Trim Refinishing: For the metal trim, we utilized Sher-Cryl HPA (High-Performance Acrylic). This coating is specifically designed for fast-dry times and superior color retention—critical for maintaining that crisp look under the bright lights of international media.



The Protective Shell: All stucco surfaces were finished with Sherwin-Williams A-100, ensuring a durable, weather-resistant finish that will look sharp long after the crowds leave the stadium.

Despite the tight window and the bustling environment of an active event center, our team maintained a safe, organized job site with minimal disruption to daily operations.
